KUALA LUMPUR: The decision not to call for another MCA extraordinary general meeting (EGM) is characterised as not respecting the voices of the party's delegates.
MCA Youth Chief Datuk Wee Kar Siong said he was sad and discontented with the decision announced yesterday by the party''s secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng.
"Any demand and appeal (to have an EGM) should be treated fairly. The question of a resolution not being in line with the party constitution, everyone has different interpretations," he told reporters in the Parliament lobby here today.
He said the purpose of calling for an EGM was not for positions or to protect anyone but was to provide an opportunity for delegates to choose a new leadership line-up.
"Opportunity will be given to delegates to choose leaders based on their observations. That is the best way for to resolve the confusion and crisis in the MCA now," he said.
The call for an EGM was made by 16 party central committee members last week to choose a new leadership line-up.
However, the proposal was rejected for not complying with the party's constitution and that meeting could not be held in the view of the party's new legal chief, Lim Hong San. - Bernama
