KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has taken statements from witnesses involved in the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) case.
The investigation is only related to elements of graft like the giving and receiving of bribes and to unearth documents that contain false details and abuse of power under the MACC Act 2009.
According to a MACC statement today, the developments in the PKFZ case however cannot be made public at this stage as it would disrupt on-going investigation.
The statement said the MACC needed witnesses statements involved in the case and would conduct the investigation with care and transparently according to the law without protecting anyone
Yesterday, the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) recommended that the MACC and the police investigate former transport minister, Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy, and former Port Klang Authority (PKA) general manager, Datin Paduka O.C. Phang for criminal breach of trust over the PKFZ scandal.
According to the PAC report yesterday, both of them should be investigated over the wrongful issuance of three letters of support by Chan and three letters of undertaking by Phang.
In its report the PAC said the project cost could have been reduced by the PKA by following Finance Ministry directions on the project spending by issuing bonds guaranteed by the government. - Bernama
