KUALA LUMPUR: Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report on weaknesses and wrongdoing in the implementation of the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) project proved that the government was transparent.
"It's not for me to say I'm happy or not but I'm glad to see one point, that is when we talk about transparency, we talk about accountability and the government is working on it," he told reporters after visiting Bangsar LRT station here today.
The PAC report had recommended that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and police investigate former transport minister Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy and former Port Klang Authority general manager Datin Paduka O.C. Phang for criminal breach of trust.
It said Chan should be investigated over the issuance of three supporting letters and Phang over three letters of undertaking issued without approval from the Finance Ministry.
Asked whether he supported the PAC recommendation, Ong said: "Whether I like or support is not the issue. Based on my action, you should know my commitment in this matter."
PAC investigated the implementation of the PKFZ project after the cost ballooned from RM1.957 billion to RM4.947 billion.
It sat from June 11 to Sept 3, interviewing witnesses including Ong, Chan and Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik, another former transport minister. - Bernama
