MALACCA, Fri: Two Kendong gang members believed to be planning a robbery were shot dead by police at Lebuh Sungai Udang-Ayer Keroh-Selandar near Kampung Bertam Ulu early today.
Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Salehudin Abd Rahman said the suspects killed were identified as Edie Ramlan Ramli, 44, of Ulu Kinta, Perak and Jamil Hud, 41, of Chenor, Pahang.
The drama unfolded at 12.30am when four police officers in a patrol car tried to stop a Proton Waja but the suspects instead rammed into the police car, sending both vehicles to the roadside.
"One shot was fired at the police officers who returned fire twice in self defence, killing the two suspects," he said.
Police found a Smith and Wesson revolver, two bullets, three bullet shells, a parang and house breaking tools in the car.
Salehudin said the two suspects had criminal records for crimes committed in Johor, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
