Students found foetus near playground

2009/11/09

KUANTAN: A group of students who were curious by a couple digging a hole near a children's playground at Taman Sepakat here, approached them, but was chased away.

Suspecting something amiss, the students remained at a distance and went back to the site after the couple left. They dug the hole and found, to their horror, a package containing a foetus.

The incident happened at about 7pm yesterday when Mohd Amin Fikri Azhar, 13, was with a group of friends and were walking to another friend's house when they passed by the playground and saw a couple digging a hole there.

He said a friend, Mohd Alif Taslim Ramli, 15, then asked the couple what they were doing, but was told to go away.

Mohd Amin Fikri said he and his friends walked away, but continued to observe the couple from a distance.

"After the couple left in a Proton Wira car, we went back to site and dug the hole where we found a piece of green cloth wrapped with a plastic sheet," he said when met here today.

The student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Paya Besar said they then decided to call the police after becoming suspicious of the package, which had a foul smell.

He said the area was dark because of a blackout in the residential area there which made difficult for them to determine what was in the package and was shocked and horrified when informed that it was a foetus.

Meanwhile, Kuantan district police chief ACP Mohd Jasmani Yusoff, who confirmed the incident, said the foetus had been sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan for a post-mortem. - Bernama
