Muhyiddin wants accurate, comprehensive data on flood victims

2009/11/09

ISTANBUL: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has reminded agencies involved in providing relief to flood victims to ensure that data collected from them are complete and accurate.

This was important to ensure that aid could be channelled to the victims in a speedy manner, he said.

"We want the registration of flood victims to be carried out properly," he told Malaysian journalists here prior to attending the summit of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), here.

"I hope the agencies involved will work closely with state administrations. We also hope that the victims will cooperate and provide accurate information," he said when asked on the flood in Malaysia which forced the evacuations of thousands of people since the past few days.

He said that rescue operations had been activated in the areas affected by the flood.

"The important thing is to ensure that there will be no loss of lives," he said.
