Evacuee number drops, water still above danger level

2009/11/09

KOTA BAHARU: The number of victims relocated to flood relief centres in two districts in Kelantan has dropped compared to earlier this evening.

A spokesperson from the State Flood Control Operations Room said as of 8pm today, relief centres housed 3,910 individuals compared to 4,133 previously.

"In Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas, 2,583 people are relocated in relief centres in comparison to 2,907 in the evening.

"As many as 1,327 victims are in Tumpat compared to 1,226 earlier, and we expect this number to drop slowly following good weather and receding water level in Sungai Golok," he told Bernama.

The water level at Sungai Golok, Rantau Panjang was recorded at 9.69 metres, which exceeds the 9 metre danger level.

No road closures or fatalities have been reported so far and the night weather was reported to be better. - Bernama
