Ministry seized pirated discs worth RM400,000

KUALA LUMPUR: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry seized 46,510 pirated digital video discs (DVD) and video compact discs (VCD) worth RM400,000 at a house in Taman Cheras Utama today.

Its enforcement deputy director-general, Iskandar Halim said, the 2pm raid was carried out by 10 ministry personnel and officers following a tip-off.

Three men in the double-storey house managed to flee through the back door.
"One of our personnel dislocated a shoulder from a fall," he told reporters at the scene.

Upon inspecting a room and the living room, they discovered 42,230 VCDs and 4,280 DVDs of various titles.

"We believe the discs are packaged here for distribution around the Klang Valley," he said.

He added that the ministry was tracking the house owner for further investigation. -- BERNAMA
