Ghani: Healthcare for all in Iskandar

2009/11/22

JOHOR BARU: Improvement of healthcare services in Iskandar Malaysia will benefit everyone, regardless of which income group they belong to.

Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman said a new public hospital would soon be built in Nusajaya in addition to a teaching hospital currently under construction at the Educity where Newcastle Univer sity’s medical faculty campus was being built.

He said the proposed public hospital in Nusajaya will complement facilities available at Sultanah Aminah Hospital and Sultan Ismail Hospital.

“Our planning for the rapid development at Iskandar Malaysia will never neglect the needs of those in the lower- income group,” he said after opening the Regency Specialist Hospital (RSH) here ye s t e r d ay.

Ghani said Iskandar Malaysia now has four private specialist hospitals.

The RSH, managed by Singapore- based Health Management International (HMI) Ltd, offers 218 beds and six operation theatres.

It began operations in November last year.

It also provides 24-hour emergency and outpatient services, health screening, pharmacy, laboratory, physiotherapy and radiology.

HMI group executive chairman Dr Gan See Khem said the medical team at the hospital specialised in medical and surgical services such as cardiology, ear, nose and throat surgery, gastroenterology, general surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedic and trauma surgery, paediatrics, radiology, rheumatology as well as vascular and endovascular surgery.
