SHAH ALAM: Worldwide Holdings Bhd, a property and environment management company is set to change the illegal waste dumping site in Kampung Sg Kertas, Ulu Yam near here into a green area in six months.
Chief Executive Officer of Worldwide, Norazlina Zakaria, said the state government had given the company the task of rehabilitating the place which had been used as an illegal waste dumping site before a landslide occurred there in September.
The rehabilitation work started three weeks ago and it is expected to be completed in June next year by when the place will be transformed into a green area, she said.
"The cost of rehabilitating the 0.32 hectare area is expected to amount to RM5.1 million and it will make the place more safe," she told reporters after a ceremony for the handover of a multipurpose hall, food court, mosque and kindergarden at the Subang Bestari U5 Zone 4 housing project here today.
Norazlina said recovery works will include the treatment of water from the waste products and the extraction of gas from the soil in the dumpsite area.
Following a six-month treatment process, the place will be fenced up and made into a green area fit to become a recreational park, she said.
The area will be also monitored for five years involving minimum cost to ensure that the place is well maintained and stays safe.
Asked on whether the area can be developed, Norazlina said development can happen only after a 20-year period.
