Pumped up with the wrong ‘cocktails’

2009/11/25

ENTER Adonis, or the idolised version of him and the namesake of a newly interesting affliction — the Adonis look. It applies to men desperately wanting top-heavy chests, big arms and lean hips.
They are unhappy with their average bodies — bit too much here, bit too little there.

The complex makes men exercise hard, pop pills meant for horses, and gives them eating disorders such as anorexia and bu l i m i a .

These men badly want the muscular bodies they see on the cover of magazines, to be men with ‘six packs’ and ripped chests.

Steroids have made athletes, actors and models bigger and stronger than the ordinar y man and the media has been promoting their images everywhere.

These images have glorified the steroid-pumped body, portraying it as a model of health got through hard work and dedication — while almost never admitting it is a cocktail of dangerous c h e m i c a l s.

Testosterone (the male sex hormone) and anabolic steroids (synthetic variants of testosterone) are by far the most popular drugs among local bodybuilders as they are easy to purchase.

Supplies are mostly imported from Thailand as it is cheap and it is distributed through local websites, gyms, both public and privately owned and middlemen, who are mostly bodybuilder s.

As a member of a gym for over five years, I have seen people develop muscles fast in a short period of time.

So, whenever I see a muscular guy in the gym, I always ask myself if he is a natural bodybuilder or not.

A trained eye can easily spot those who are in the middle of a heavy steroid cycle from their appearance.

Usually, they gain lots of muscle mass in only a few weeks and I have seen this at my own gym.

They look like as if all their muscles are permanently pumped up even when they are not pumping iron. Their muscles really jump out, look hard, and full.

It is really sad that some people resort to steroids to gain muscle. Some take them blindly without knowing the long term cons e q u e n c e s.

Gym owners should take steps not to sell steroids to its customers and also ban those who are on them, from their gyms.

This is the only way to stop steroid use.

Many people dream of having Adonis-like bodies but they should do it the right away instead of depending on drugs to achieve it.
