KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said yesterday he would brief Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak on efforts to resolve the MCA leadership crisis before making public any details on the issue.
“I will not update the media daily on the developments in MCA. Let me and the MCA leaders take time to solve this issue. Let us cool down a bit.

“There is no need to divulge further information as this will lead to speculation.” Muhyiddin said Najib had asked him to look into the issue.

“I am doing it on his instruction.

I have to report to him fir st.

“It would then be up to him to decide on the next course of action,” said Muhyiddin, who is also deputy prime minister, at Pa r l i a m e n t .

Asked about the MCA extraordinary general meeting that is scheduled to be held on Saturday, he said: “I do not have to give my views about it.” On Monday, he had said that he was giving himself one week to find a solution to the MCA leadership crisis.

He added that a formula would be drawn up during that period to reach a consensus among the feuding party leader s.

He also said that a series of meetings had been held with several MCA leaders to discuss the crisis in detail.

He said he was given the mandate by Najib to tackle the problem by implementing pro-active measures as soon as possible to prevent the crisis from worsening.
