TV: ’Kung Fu Panda’ in dual language
2009/11/27
ENTHUSIASTIC, big and a little clumsy, Po (Golden Globe nominee Jack Black) is the biggest fan of kung fu there is in the animated movie Kung Fu Panda, which doesn’t exactly come in handy while working every day in his family’s noodle shop.
When he’s unexpectedly chosen to fulfil an ancient prophecy, Po’s dreams become reality and he joins the world of kung fu to study alongside his idols, the legendary Furious Five: Tigress (Angelina Jolie); Crane (David Cross); Mantis (Seth Rogen); Viper (Lucy Liu); and Monkey (Jackie Chan) — under the leadership of their guru, Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman).
But before they know it, the vengeful and treacherous snow leopard Tai Lung (Ian McShane) is headed their way, and it’s up to Po to defend everyone from the oncoming threat.
Can he turn his dreams of becoming a kung fu master into reality? Po puts his heart and girth into the task, and the unlikely hero finds his greatest weaknesses turn out to be his greatest strengths.
Kung Fu Panda airs this Sunday at 9pm on HBO (Astro Channel 411). It repeats on Monday at 1pm, Dec 3 at 11.30pm, Dec 5 at 11am and 7.30pm, and Dec 6 at 2.30pm.
For the first time on HBO, viewers will have the option to enjoy either a Bahasa Malaysia or English version of this animation.
HBO Asia senior vice-president of sales and marketing Jacelyn Kek said in a press release: “HBO Asia is committed to providing more value to subscribers in Malaysia. HBO was the first movie channel on the Astro Movie Pack to offer both Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese subtitles. Kung Fu Panda was the No.1 animated movie in the Malaysian box office the year it was released.
“It was also one of the top 10 grossing box office movies in the year it was released not only in Malaysia, but internationally too.
“If the response to the dual language option for Kung Fu Panda is positive, we will consider offering it on more HBO movies in the future.”
