Bye 2009, Hello 2010

2009/12/30

The year ends at midnight. Do you still remember some events that made an impact on everyone? Here are just a few.
1) Earth Hour 2009. Earth Hour was celebrated grandly on March 28 all over Malaysia from 8.30pm to 9.30pm (local time). For one hour, citizens of Malaysia came together and participated in an initiative to promote a sustainable environment. We took part by turning off our lights for one hour! 2) Influenza A (H1N1) attack in Malaysia. H1N1 is also known as swine flu. The first death related to the A (H1N1) virus was reported on July 23, and there have been 77 deaths reported. On July 6, Malaysia announced that it was shifting from containment to mitigation to tackle the spread of the virus. Some schools were ordered to be shut down for a week and all the teachers, students and their parents were advised to be quarantined at home. Malaysians were seen using hand sanitisers and face masks everywhere. 3) Death of Michael Jackson, The King Of Pop. His death was unacceptable by many around the world! On June 25, the late King of Pop passed away, leaving his family behind. Eventually, after he passed away, everyone realised what a loss the world has experienced. The appreciation for the late King of Pop who was once interviewed by Oprah Winfrey, has definitely increased and he will always remain the legendary Michael Jackson! 4) Rihanna and Chris Brown conflict – Rihanna’s concert on the Feb 13 in Malaysia was cancelled because she was assaulted by Chris Brown. Malaysian fans were left devastated and angry. Brown was arrested. We admire Rihanna’s courage to continue singing. She has handled the assault quite well. She is an inspiration to all women out there who have been assaulted or abused. Besides that, some of us have achieved our goals in life like getting flying colours in Ujian Penilian Sekolah Rendah and the Penilian Menengah Rendah examinations.

Congratulations to those who have achieved what they aimed for. For those who failed, don’t be disheartened. Pick yourself up and try again next year. Remember, failure is the mother of success! Every human being is a door to a unique world. So, never lament you are alone. Why not try making new relationships? Why not try Twitter, Friendster, MySpace or Facebook? If you worry about a mistake, remember everyone is always given another chance. A care-free mind stimulates the sub-conscious mind to think. No matter which path you are on, always go for happiness. Good luck!
