MALACCA: Two members of the Kendong gang believed to be planning a robbery, were shot dead by police at Lebuh Sungai Udang-Ayer Keroh-Selandar near Kampung Bertam Ulu early yesterday.
Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Salehudin Abd Rahman said the suspects killed were identified as Edie Ramlan Ramli, 44, of Ulu Kinta, Perak and Jamil Hud, 41, of Chenor, Pahang.
The drama unfolded at 12.30am when four police officers in a patrol car tried to stop a Proton Waja, but the suspects instead rammed into the police car, sending both vehicles to the roadside.
"One shot was fired at the police officers, who returned fire twice in self-defence, killing the two suspects," he said.
Police found a Smith and Wesson revolver, two bullets, three bullet shells, a parang and break-in tools in the car.
Salehudin said the two suspects had records for crimes committed in Johor, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
The Proton Waja used by the suspects bore false registration plates.
It was reported stolen in Subang Jaya, Selangor in September.
The two bodies were sent to Malacca Hospital for a post-mortem. -- Bernama
