Stacking up to world record
2009/11/13
PETALING JAYA: Malaysians joined thousands of sport stackers worldwide in the fourth annual World Sport Stacking Association (WSSA) "Stack Up" event with the aim to create a new Guinness World Record.
Eight hundred participants from Beaconhouse School-Sri Inai and various other schools in Malaysia and Singapore stacked up special plastic cups during the fun event at Beaconhouse School here yesterday.
Each Sport Stacker upstacked and downstacked 12 cups called Speed Stacks at high speeds for at least 30 minutes, in what is being billed as the world's largest sport stacking event.
About 250,000 stackers from the United States of America, Germany, Canada, Japan, Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom and other countries are expected to take part this year compared with 222,560 stackers last year.
"Sport Stacking which promotes hand-eye coordination, better motor skills, improved concentration, speed, focus and creative thinking is a fun activity," said Mark Lee, technical director of Bos Edubiz Sdn Bhd, the organisers of the Malaysian part of the event along with Beaconhouse School.
Should the record be broken, participants will walk away with a certificate of participation awarded by WSSA and Guinness World Records.
