KELANTAN'S Indra Putra Mahayuddin received a significant boost ahead of Saturday's Malaysia Cup final after being named the country's most valuable player at the 100Plus-FAM National Football Awards yesterday.
Selangor were also big winners when they took home three of the 10 awards handed out at a hotel in Petaling Jaya while Johor FC were rewarded for their consistency by being honoured as the best club.
K. Devan was rewarded for his efforts in steering Selangor to the Super League and FA Cup double when he was anointed as the best coach while his skipper Amri Yahyah won the best midfielder award.
Selangor also bagged the best football association award while three national Under-23 players went home with the remaining prizes.
Perlis custodian Farizal Marlias was voted as the best goalkeeper, Negri Sembilan defender Aidil Zafuan Radzak is the best defender while Muslim Ahmad, a steady influence in Premier League champions Young Tigers' defence, was declared the most promising player.
Indra, who currently leads the Malaysia Cup scoring chart with 10 goals, was also named as the best striker although he was not present to receive his awards as he prepared for Malaysia Cup showdown against Negri with the rest of his squad in Kota Baru.

Far from resting on his laurels, Devan said he will be getting down to preparing his squad for next season as soon as next week.
"We are in the process of strengthening the team although we cannot reveal much now. But we'll have an idea of the makeup of the team for the new season when the FA Council meets next week," he said.
