Second EGM needed to save party, says committee man

2009/11/03

KUALA LUMPUR: A second extraordinary general meeting (EGM) must go on if MCA is to save itself.

Party central committee (CC) member Wong Nai Chee, who with two other CC members sent in a requisition for another EGM, said the CC's decision yesterday to return to status quo has made a mockery of the party.

"It merely serves to double confirm the necessity to have fresh elections," he said at a press conference after the meeting.

Wong, who with Datuk Wee Jeck Seng and Datuk Liew Yuen Keong submitted the requisition last week, said the EGM was needed to return the mandate to the delegates to hold fresh elections.

He added that they would also include the results of the Oct 10 EGM for review by delegates in the second EGM to work out whether the results were in line with the party constitution.

"At the moment, it is best to leave it to the central delegates to decide the future of MCA, instead of having this kind of fiasco which is causing a lot of damage to the credibility of the MCA."

Wong said they were arranging to meet with party secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng and the new legal bureau chief Lim Hong Sang as soon as possible to work out the details of the second EGM.

Last week, the requisition was submitted with 16 signatories from the CC -- meeting the required one-third of the total 42 CC members to call for an EGM.

Wong said if no notice is issued by today, they would have the prerogative to issue a notice to all central delegates and set the date of the second EGM.

TH:
I really fail to see any need for EGM to drag this episode further. The entire episode started with Ong Vs Chua and when Ong & Chua has decided to patch up and work together, the episode should just end there. Period.
Ng Tak Wai:
Dear Mr. Wong, Please stop what you are trying to do. Enough is enough. MCA can only save itself if its leaders stop bickering and find ways to ensure the success of the Greater Unity plan. As a Chinese Malaysian, I am most disappointed with the likes of you and your 3rd force making these unneccessary calls to further disrupt what the President and CSL managed to iron out. What kind of leader are you? Please do it for the sake of the millions of Chinese in Malaysia. People are laughing at us. Do you want the likes of Sri Gading and his cronies to talk some more? You and friends have shown yourselves to be selfish and not looking at the big picture. Stop now before you cause more damage to our community. I will definitely petition for your expulsion if you persist in making a mockery of us Chinese Malaysian.
