Judge asks key witness to clarify evidence

2009/11/24

IPOH: The corruption trial of two former Pakatan Rakyat state executive council members and three others saw Sessions Court judge Azhaniz Teh Azman Teh repeatedly asking the key prosecution witness to explain his evidence.
Azhaniz questioned Mohd Imran Abdullah several times, saying he (the judge) had to refresh his memory.

As a result, Imran had to repeat himself several times and confirm what he had said earlier.

The 34-year-old car salesman told the court that he was confused by the questioning of the excos' defence counsel, Abdul Roni Abdul Rahman, earlier in the trial.

Roni was not in court yesterday as he was sick.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission head of prosecution Datuk Abdul Razak Musa re-examined Imran yesterday.

Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi (independent-Behrang), Osman Jailu (Independent-Changkat Jering), former Perak Tengah district councillors Usaili Alias and Zul Hassan, and odd-job worker Fairul Azrim are charged with accepting bribes of between RM400 and RM100,000 between Aug 6 and Aug 19 last year.

They are also alleged to have accepted sexual favours from women arranged by Imran as incentive to obtain a multi-million ringgit development project in Pusat Bandar Seri Iskandar, 45km south-west of here.

Charges against the sixth accused, Roslan Sahat, a Perak State Development Corporation technician, were dropped upon his death on Aug 3.

Hearing continues on Nov 30.
