Squash: Delia ends season with a whimper

2009/11/28

NATIONAL No 2 Delia Arnold brought the curtains down on her 2009 squash season with a first round exit at the Sharm El Sheikh Open in Egypt on Thursday.
The sixth seed fell 11-6, 11-7, 11-9 in 36 minutes to Canada's Alana Miller, who evened the career meetings between the two players at 1-1 with the win.

Delia ended the year with one Wispa Tour title -- the NSC Series No 7 tournament in July -- to show in 12 tournaments and improve her ranking from 28th to 25th over the last 12 months.

Meanwhile, Azlan Iskandar hopes to end his season on a high after reaching the quarter-finals of the Dutch Open in Rotterdam on Thursday. The third seeded Azlan beat Australian qualifier Steve Finitsis comfortably in the first round and was playing sixth seed Tom Richards of England in the last eight late yesterday.

"That's a good start to get off in three (games) in half an hour, I can look forward to the rest of the tournament now," said World No 13 Azlan.
