KUALA LUMPUR: Thick white smoke clouded Changkat Thambi Dollah and Jalan Davis area recently.

It was not due to the haze but an effort by Kuala Lumpu City Hall to rid the area of aedes mosquitoes.

The densely populated area, which borders the districts of Bukit Bintang and Pudu, had reported six dengue cases last month.

Organised by Gerakan with a seven-member team from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall's Health Division, aedes breeding grounds in the area were destroyed.

Acting Gerakan Federal Territory chairman Siow Chee Meng said: "This is Gerakan's second effort to rid the city of dengue. The first was conducted in Taman Wahyu near Kepong last month."

The party's division hawkers and businesses bureau chairman, Li Tiam Chai said: "We received complaints from residents about mosquitoes due to indiscriminate dumping in the area."

"We will conduct health checks and regular fogging with City Hall in the area."

"We urge the public to dispose rubbish properly and take preventive measures to fight dengue."

The Federal Territory party division also plans to conduct spring cleaning in the area in the next two weeks with City Hall to promote cleanliness.

Li urged other party leaders and the public to carry out similar measures to ensure long term prevention against the disease.

The public can contact the Gerakan's Federal Territory office at 03-2141 7855 or City Hall's Health Division at 03-9284 5166 to request for help in combating aedes mosquitoes..
