SUBANG JAYA: Tempers flared during a Subang Jaya Municipal Council meeting when a councillor questioned the presence of Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh at the meeting table.

This caused the meeting to be adjourned for 15 minutes.

"Why is she sitting here (beside the councillors)?

"Her place is at the back. If she can sit here, can I bring anyone too?" Keshminder said.

Council's president Datuk Adnan Md Ikhsan replied that Keshminder could bring anyone to the meeting after receiving approval.

Yeoh said she had received approval from the meeting's secretariat to sit beside the councillors for a slide presentation.

Councillor Chang Kim Leong, then made an apology on behalf of the councillors for the commotion.

After the meeting, Yeoh told reporters that there was no poweroutlet at her place (for her laptop), she had asked the secretariat for permission to sit beside the councillors.

Yeoh, who looked puzzled by the incident, said she had followed the meeting's protocol.

"If I want to speak, I will ask the chairman first because that is the procedure. I can speak but I could not vote in any decision making," she said.

Yeoh did not comment on Keshminder's behavior but said: "There is a lack of communication among those attending the meeting. This can be improved."

Yeoh said the incident would not deter her from going to the council's full board meetings in future.

"I will attend the meetings. That is my duty to Subang Jaya residents," she said

Keshminder said his outburst was nothing personal but he wanted to ensure that protocol was followed.

"It's clear that she has a place in the meeting and the excuse of not having a power outlet was not a good reason," he said.
