Borneo Eagles fly high

Print Article Email Article

KUALA LUMPUR: There was much hard-hitting action in the recent Guinness Jonah Jones Rugby Sevens 2008 tournament.

Tough players from some of the top teams from Hong Kong and Thailand battled it out at the Royal Selangor Club in Bukit Kiara over the weekend.

This year's tournament featured a new Super League, a for top tier local clubs to compete on a level playing field with their foreign counterparts by removing player import restrictions.

And the Super League final turned out to be a super display between Combined Old Boys Rugby Association (Cobra) and tournament debutants Borneo Eagles.

Borneo Eagles came out tops 29-0 through a combination of slick offensive play and a rock-solid defensive line.

Guinness Anchor Bhd marketing director Mark Jenner presented the inaugural Guinness Jonah Jones Super League award to the winners.

Borneo Eagles player Tomasi Cama was named the player of the tournament for his standing contribution to his team's success.

In addition to the Super League, the Guinness Jonah Jones Shield was also contested by local and regional clubs, with Royal Bangkok Sports Club emerging tops, having beaten local team Sahoca 24-14.
