SHAH ALAM: In just two hours, Selangor traffic police issued summonses totalling RM44,400 to errant motorcyclists not using their lanes at the Federal Highway here yesterday.

The operation was led by Assistant Superintendent Hambazi Abd Rahman of the Selangor traffic police enforcement unit.

Hambazi said some 170 motorcyclist were checked and 148 summonses were issued at two roadblocks set up at the Sungai Rasau and Batu Tiga toll plaza.

Hambazi said the operation was held to educate motorcyclists using the Federal Highway stretch between the Sungai Rasau and Batu Tiga Toll Plaza.

"We have received complaints that motorcyclists are not using their lanes and entering the main traffic lanes.

"This act is dangerous to the motorcyclists as well to other road users," said Hambazi yesterday.

He said a maximum compound fine of RM300 will be enforced on each each summonses written yesterday as a deterrent to other offenders.

"We need to teach the motorcyclists a lesson that endangering their lives and others is not to be tolerated," Hambazi said.

He said most of the motorcyclist stopped yesterday gave excuses that entrance into their lanes was closed due to construction works.

"This is not true as we checked the motorcycle lanes before setting up the road blocks. Maybe it was closed yesterday or the days before, but then the motorcyclists should not take it for granted and just use the main lanes," said Hambazi.
