The women’s team had a great time representing Malaysia in the Danone World Cup.

KUALA LUMPUR: They can tell the national football team that they have done something the latter haven't: "We have played in the finals of a World Cup for football, have you?

The 18 men and women from Danone Dumex (Malaysia) had the distinction of playing in the Danone World Cup finals in Miami recently.

They were among more than 900 players from over 45 countries taking part in the event.

The Malaysians had the opportunity to be in the same tournament with teams from Brazil, Argentina, England and Germany.

They took part in men's and women's six-a-side competition in the World Cup.

Maggie Tay Siau Mei, the captain of the women's team, said the Malaysians had a great time in Miami.

"Everyone was looking forward to the tournament, not only to play but more importantly, to have fun and to share the experience regardless of whether or not we bring home the trophy!"

Walter Biggs, the coach for the women's team, said: "It was a pleasure and an honor to coach the team as they hail from an organisation where employees' health is as important as the business itself.

"And of course, this is not just about football, but also team building and how each player connects in their shared values," said Biggs.

Team manager Mohamed Rafy Mohamed Izam said both the men's and women's teams qualified for the Danone World Cup finals after playing in the early rounds in May,

"The teams underwent rigorous training for fitness and technical skills for about five months.

"Our players were very excited to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with teams from France, Brazil, England and Germany!

"It was truly like being in the real World Cup in terms of passion and excitement."

Held every two years, the Danone World Cup is a worldwide football competition where employees of the Danone group share a sporting adventure.
