KUALA LUMPUR: Chiew Yan Sheon literally signed his way to ownership of a Hyundai Coupe in a contest.

Chiew had come out tops among the thousands of participants in a competition to sign the word "football" with the most creative flair.

The sleek Hyundai Coupe, which was the grand prize in Carlsberg's recent Euro 2008 Golden Ride contest, was an early birthday present for the 33-year-old Chiew.

"I was very surprised to find out that I had won the Hyundai Coupe. It was beyond my wildest expectations," said Chiew who works as a supervisor in a logistics firm in Ipoh.

Chiew added that he had sent in more than 30 entries which required some research to come up with his creations.

"It took me about a day or two to complete each entry as I wanted to give it my best shot," said Chiew.

Carlsberg's general manager of marketing, Ole S. Nielsen said the company's involvement in the UEFA European Cup started in the early 1990s.

"Football is our turf, with sponsorhips of Liverspool and a host of other clubs in the English Premier League as well as the FA Cup," said Nielsen.

The other sponsors for the contest included Sime Darby Motors and JVC.

The prize presentation ceremony coincided with the Liverpool versus Sunderland game that kicked off the new English Premier League season.
