Tell the council how to spend its money

PETALING JAYA: How would you want the Petaling Jaya City Council to spend its money?

This will be the question posed to Petaling Jaya residents end of this month.

A discussion will be held by the council and residents' associations to discuss the city's allocation for next year.

It is learnt that the biggest chunk of the budget will be for improving roads and infrastructure.

The council's public relations officer Zainun Zakaria said the objective of the discussion is to ensure the budget was allocated wisely.

The council has planned to provide free community bus services in low income areas.

Some of the low income areas in Petaling Jaya are Taman Medan, Kampung Kayu Ara and Sg Penchala.

"But the support from the public for the project is poor," he said.

He said the council would distribute flyers to create awareness of the services.

On whether the city council will convert its vehicles from petrol to NGV, mayor Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman said: "Not yet."

"PJ isn't a huge area and we can still manage," he said.

He said even though in the long run, the move will reduce motoring costs, the initial installation of the NGV tankers would be costly.

"The oil price is currently unstable but if it continues to rise, we may consider NGV but not now," he said.

The city council has no intention of issuing additional billboard permits.

"We are still trying to get the TOL (temporary occupation licence) from the land office for all billboards," said Zainun.
