KUALA LUMPUR: Jewellery designer Pamela Ong has a heart of gold, donating some of her prized items to charity.

The proceeds from the sale of those precious things will go to the "Aged unite to organise rest and recreation foundation".

"I handmade every single piece that was displayed and I hope the sale will help raise around RM50,000 for the foundation," she said.

The fund raiser, held recently in the foyer of the Parkroyal Hotel, saw many hotel guests and some members of the public viewing the pieces.

"Many of the pieces are made from more than 600 pieces of multi-coloured beaded and semi-precious gems that are worth a few thousand ringgit," she said.

Foundation founder and chairman Lin Chua said she was grateful to Pamela for the donation.

"She has been very supportive towards the cause and I'm thankful to her," she said.

Lin said the foundation, which looks into the needs of senior citizens and their families, is the first of its kind in Malaysia.

The centre does not operate as an old folks home but provides the elderly with a chance to participate in a number of activities such as yoga, chess and banzai planting.
