Angry cybercafe bosses want to see MB about council chief

Print Article Email Article

AMPANG JAYA: Ampang cybercafe owners are to send a memorandum to Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to outline their unhappiness with the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council.

Their association held a protest at the council recently after failing to meet the council president.

Association president Chua Aik Kiang, in a statement, said the decision to hand the memorandum to the menteri besar was made after numerous failed attempts to meet with council president Datuk Mohammad Yacob to discuss their problems.

"The association will hold a discussion first before handing the memorandum by next week after failing to have a meeting with Mohammad.

"We will also hand a copy of the memorandum to the state executive councillors Ronnie Liu (local government and research analysis), Iskandar Abdul Samad (housing, building management and squatters), and Teratai state sssemblyman Jenice Lee," said Chua.

He said among the problems faced by cybercafe operators were difficulties in renewing licenses after they expire, the short operation hours (until midnight) which affect their business income, and unsuccessful appeals for lower compound fines.

The association, on behalf of other business operators and residents also pointed out other problems like restaurants being prohibited from placing tables and chairs outdoors, clogged drains and potholes on the roads, and the failure of MPAJ to issue certificates of fitness to some developments.

Chua said the association "wants a president who can manage and supervise the performance of all the MPAJ departments and someone who can meet (or have time to meet) business operators and residents."

He added that if the president failed to perform, a capable candidate should be selected instead.
