He said there had been 25 confirmed cases of dengue in the BU4 area since April and two more residents hospitalised for dengue recently, within a week.

The event was supported by Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), Alam Flora, and the manufacturers of Shieldtox. The residents destroyed possible aedes breeding grounds in the neighbourhood. MBPJ has also committed to do regular fogging in the area.

Yau Kok Leong, chairman of BU4 area committeesaid: "We hope that this activity will spur others to play their part and be more vigilant and take action. Here in BU4, the fight against dengue is of utmost importance to the BU4 area committee."

Adil Ahmad, of Shiedtox manufacturers Reckitt Benckiser said families must ensure that the prevention of Aedes was also done daily. "Simple routines like changing the water in vases and containers every alternate day and turning over pots that hold rainwater, can make a significant difference," Adil added.

BU4 residents also brought used items such as electrical appliances, furniture, mattresses, old clothes and newspapers for recycling, to raise funds for Persatuan Kebajikan Xim Phou Moon Malaysia.
