FOR something totally different, break fast with a seven-course menu of Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine at Parkroyal Kuala Lumpur’s Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant.

Priced at RM65 per person for a minimum of four, you can feast on rice with Sichuan hot and sour soup, wokfried scallops with minced garlic and chili, deepfried diced chicken with parsley, steamed silver cod in green chili paste, boiled beef in Sichuan pepper sauce, braised beancurd with spicy minced meat and chilled honeydew sago.

A tea master will also be on hand to serve tea the kungfu way, poured from a copper pot with a metre long spout.

At the Chatz Brasserie, you can eat through all the States in one go with specialties like Johor’s nasi biryani, Malacca’s ikan tumis asam pedas, Kelantan’s nasi dagang, Perak’s rendang tok, Sabah’s ayam masak lengkuas, Kedah’s kambing masala and Selangor’s hati dendeng jawa.

This is in addition to other dishes from appetisers, dessert and live action stations serving up roti canai, murtabak, tosai, barbecued lamb, satay, popiah basah, dim sum and more.

The berbuka puasa buffet is priced at RM75 and RM39 (child).

Still a crowd favourite

PJ HILTON’S Paya Serai is a top favourite venue for berbuka puasa. It has earned a reputation for its delightful kampung cuisine but that’s not all you can expect.

Sample scrumptious salads and appetisers like acar rampai, kerabu pucuk ubi, kerabu nangka, tauhu sumbat, popiah basah, otak-otak, budu and sambal tempoyak and soups like sup ekor, soto ayam and bubur lambuk.

Then have rice with ayam masak kurma, fish head curry, beef rendang, udang masak berempah, mutton curry, udang sambal petai, ayam percik, ikan sembiling masak lemak pegaga and ketam goreng. Or have lemang and ketupat with serunding daging.

Action stalls feature roti canai, putu mayam, putu piring, roti jala, tempura, satay and grilled fish.

End the meal with bubur pengat pisang, bubur gandum, mango pudding, tapai ubi, pisang emas, tapai pulut and pulut kukus with serawa durian in addition to ice cream and pastries.

International flavours

LEGEND Hotel’s chefs have decided to inject an international flavour into the Ramadan buffet spread at the Di-Atas Brasserie on the ninth floor.

Priced at RM75 and RM37.50 (child), the promotion features six menus rotated daily. All menus feature both Asian, western and local dishes from appetisers to main courses and dessert.

There is no need to choose between fresh seafood on ice or kerabu and ulam. Have them all, including smoked salmon, rojak, tahu sumbat, dim sum and satay. Then indulge in cream of mushroom soup with garlic toast, tom yam and oxtail soup.

For main courses, there is laksa Johor, Chinese stirfried crabs, rendang, tandoori fish, stirfried venison, ikan pekasam as well as nasi kandar, roasted sirloin, grilled seafood, lamb percik, tempura, murtabak and fried noodles.

For dessert, don’t stop at kuih muih and sweet bubur or ais kacang. Get your fill of creme caramel, blueberry cheese tart, lemon meringue pie, jackfruit crumble and white chocolate mousse.
