Heels without pain
RACHAEL PHILIP

| This Giuseppe Zanotti Jewelled Fish Sandal with generous crystals is tops in the bling department |

| From top: Ferragamo’s practical black ensures that you’ve got heels to match most anything in your closet. In glossy pink, Ferragamo’s sling backs can take you from work to party in the blink of an eye. This evening shoe is part of Salvatore Ferragamo’s 80th Anniversary Edition heels. |
It’s amazing how a pair of invisible cushioning pads allows RACHAEL PHILIP to wear her sexy heels to work all week, comfortably
TODAY’S the fourth day I’m wearing 8cm high black strappies to work. It started as a challenge of sorts, to see if I could endure a whole week in my most uncomfortable, albeit sexy sandals, with the help of special cushioning pads.
By now, I should have keeled over in pain or sheer discomfort. I could have also fallen down the stairs or sprained my ankles, no thanks to my clumsy self who is not predisposed to grace and poise.
Thankfully, none of these happened. Nor did I avoid using the stairs or make fewer trips to the pantry to fill up my water bottle.
The ball of my feet, which usually kills me with a sharp burning pain about three hours into the day or night, did not hurt one bit. In fact I felt like I could go on like this for the rest of the month.
The Scholl Party Feet Ultra Slim cushioning pads are made of a visco-elastic polymer gel and they must have worked to provide excellent shock absorption for my feet balanced on mere spikes.
I stress on “must have” because, honestly, I couldn’t tell. I didn’t feel any cushioning effect or a bouncy lilt with every step I took.
The gel pads are terribly slim. If, in the first two or three hours, I could feel the strangeness of it beneath my feet, the sensation quickly disappeared.
Unlike court shoes or pumps, sandals without sling backs do not keep your feet in place. But the grooved surface of the gel pads kept my feet firmly in place, reducing sliding and slipping as I walked.
The traction provided comfort too and reduced stress on the feet.
It’s good to know that the tacky gel pads stay tacky even when washed, so they can be reused.
So now, I can now park my rubber sole pumps at home and wear more glamorous heels to the office.
Scholl Party Feet Ultra Slim, which retails at RM18.90, is the improved version of the previous Scholl Party Feet. The new gel pads have an advanced shape and are thinner, providing 25 per cent more space in your shoes.

Get a life: ‘Be’ then have your dreams come true
I WAS coaching a group of new recruits, working to help them settle into their new roles and realise their responsibilities. Wide-eyed and impressionable, they were young and eager, but without a career blueprint or a clear sense of their organisation’s values, mission or vision.
