Business imaging now in homes

The new lineup comprises seven Pixma all-in-ones (AIOs), three Pixma single-function printers and three scanners to cover specific imaging needs, blending functionality and elegance.
All but two printers offer users lab-quality photo prints through a new dye-based ink system called ChromaLife100+, which is said to help ensure prints stay vibrant in photo albums for up to 300 years when used together with genuine Canon photo paper.
To save on time, the new lineup sports a new user interface that automates many functions intelligently. Auto Photo Fix and Auto Scan Mode detect and optimise scans and prints independently, removing extra steps and speeding up commonly performed tasks.
Multi-function capability
Designed for consumers who want no compromise from their multi-function printers, Canon’s four new AIOs – the MP988, MP638, MP628 and MP545 – feature a maximum print resolution of 9,600 by 2,400 dots per inch (dpi), miniscule ink droplet size at one picolitre, and print speeds of up to 26 pages per minute for monochrome and 21ppm for colour.
The MP638 also features a print speed of 20 seconds for a four-by-six-inch colour photo. It even offers automatic duplex printing and customised CD/DVD label printing.
The MP988 and MP628 boast wireless local area network (WLAN) connectivity through wireless routers. Both models use Wired Equivalent Privacy/Wireless Messaging API for a one-touch, secured setup within a network. They also can be configured as a shared printer/scanner for multiple computers or small workgroups through a LAN.
Besides that, the MP988 introduces a sixth ink tank with Canon’s new Gray Ink for professional monochrome photo prints with reduced graininess and that achieves a stable grey tone even across multiple print copies.
For consumers who enjoy the versatility of a multi-function device in a cost-effective package, they can opt for the MP486, MP245 or MP198. These models offer a print resolution of 4,800 by 1,200dpi, and print speeds of up to 20ppm for monochrome, 16ppm for colour and
45s for a four-by-six-inch colour photo. Scanning resolution starts at 600 by 1,200dpi for the MP198 and reaches 2,400 by 4,800dpi for the MP486.
Dedicated printing
For those who just want to print, be it a photo, work document or school project, Canon has three dedicated single-function printers: the iP4680, iP3680 and iP1980.
These models offer print resolutions from 4,800 by 1,200dpi to 9,600 by 2,400dpi, and print speeds of up to 26ppm for monochrome and 21ppm for colour.
Additionally, the iP4680 is capable of a print speed of
20s for a four-by-six-inch colour photo.
Intelligent scanning
Canon’s three new scanners – the CanoScan 5600F,
LiDE 200 and LiDE 100 – are suitable for those with plenty of photos or important documents to preserve. These models feature Auto Scan mode, which recognises different types of documents and scans them accurately at the push of a button.
The CanoScan 5600F employs a CCD sensor and white light-emitting diode (LED) technology for lower power consumption and offers instant startup operation.
As for the LiDE 200 and LiDE 100, both employ a CIS sensor and three-colour LED light source for an ultra-slim form factor.
In terms of scan speed, the CanoScan 5600F is capable of 11s, LiDE 200 at 14s, and LiDE 100 at 24s for
A4-sized colour scans at 300dpi resolution. The CanoScan 5600F also can scan 35-millimetre camera film strips or slides.
