Imagine staying in a hotel room that fosters personalised experience, where you can have total control of how you want to relax and revitalise.
Plush lighting immerses the room in a comfortable and luxurious ambience. For relaxation, the living area is also equipped with the Philips Action TV and ambisound theatre system. The one-touch remote control enables guests to take charge of their in-room experience.

Not only do you have access to personal care and infotainment, but you can also choose the atmosphere that best evokes your senses with a touch of a button.
Though it may be far-fetched and futuristic, for Royal Philips Electronics, this concept is already a commercial proposition set to provide the hotel industry a solution to differentiate and enhance their services.
The Ambient Experience, which was initially showcased at the London Simplicity event last year, provides the hospitality sector with custom-made and integrated solutions across ambience, infotainment and personal care.
In June, the company partnered the citizenM hotel chain in Amsterdam, Netherlands for its first commercial rollout of the integrated Ambient Experience for Hospitality.
The citizenM hotel near Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport comprised pre-fabricated rooms equipped with radio frequency identification (RFID) keycard, flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi and a “MoodPad” lighting controller which allowed guests to determine the right lighting, shades and temperature according to their moods.
Through its collaboration with Fairmont, a luxury hotel brand, Philips opened the first Ambient Experience Concept Suite in Asia-Pacific at Fairmont Singapore. Developed as part of the company’s “Hotel of the Future” initiative, the Ambient Experience Concept Suite offers an unprecedented level of simplicity, customisation and personalisation to hotel guests.
Ambient settings
Walking journalists through the Ambient Experience Concept Suite at the Fairmont Hotel, Philips’ consumer lifestyle hospitality and healthcare, category manager Bert Verschuren explained that the Philips hospitality solution is designed to offer a complete guestroom ecosystem. The solution comprised a combination of Philips lighting, infotainment and in-room amenities.
The Philips Ambient Experience Concept Suite is developed around four themes, such as Rise, Perk, Lush and Rest, which captures the mental and emotional state of travellers from the moment they arrive at the hotel room to the time they sleep. With the use of the Philips one-touch universal remote control, guests can take charge of the ambient setting in their rooms to suit their moods. To augment the ambient experience, Philips’ personal grooming and in-room appliances are included.
“Central to the Ambient Experience Concept Suite across the four themes are colours, sound and visual effects. Different lighting effects and colours are used to trigger emotions with the use of the Affinium LED String and Philips Spot LED. For sound and visual effects, a combination of Philips’ sound system and TVs are used to stream appropriate music and video,” said Verschuren.
With the use of the Affinium LED String, continuous wall-washing effects and colour-changing wall panels are enabled in the room. As for the Philips Spot LED projectors and downlights, it is used to maximise light output and efficiency.
For entertainment, the concept suite included the Philips Aurea IP-TV, which featured an Active Frame that enveloped the picture with an ever-changing glow of light. The glow matched the colours on the screen and extended the picture with a soft, soothing halo. It also has interactive hospitality features. Complementing the Aurea was the Ambisound Theater System, a compact single-bar sound system which is able to deliver 5.1 multi-channel sound.
Other interesting features of the concept suite were the Wake-Up Light, the ActiViva lamp and the Anti-Stumble Light.
Instead of being woken up by an alarm clock, the room is fitted with the Philips Wake-Up Light which imitated the sun’s gentle morning rays by casting a gradual amber glow to rouse guests from their slumber. According to Philips, clinical studies showed that sunrise simulation has proven health benefits and well-being improvement.
Another feature in the concept room was the ActiViva lamp which not only provided high-quality lighting but also influenced the way people felt, by making them more alert and energised. It contains an optimised amount of blue light to help enhance working conditions and boost performance.
For guests who need to go to the bathroom at night, the room is equipped with the Philips Anti-Stumble Light, a motion-activated device to light their way at night. It provided a warm white light upon sensing motion in the dark for two minutes after which it will slowly fade off.
