Slim, sleek and value for money
Hazimin Sulaiman

The V2400W 24-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) monitor from BenQ is among the easiest to be set up in recent memory. Out of the box, no assembly is needed.

Usually, LCD monitors need some assembly of the base and stand. But for the V2400W, the only assembly needed are the power and video graphics array cables.

Like many other models in the market, the V2400W is slim and sleek. You will notice that BenQ has kept the hardware controls for the monitor on the front. Finished in silver, the touch-sensitive buttons contrast well with the black exterior. And the blue-lit buttons work fine even though they lack tactile feel.

In terms of body construction, the monitor is easy to carry out of the box, although it gets creaky when pressure is applied. That’s not to say it’s flimsy, just not as solid as one might expect – the price for being chic and slim.

And the attached stand, of course, means that the V2400W cannot be wall-mounted.

Design-wise, the V2400W received the 2008 iF and Red Dot design awards for being the world’s thinnest 24-inch LCD monitor, measuring just six centimetres at its maximum depth. The bezel also is slim, but interestingly positioned off-centre.

The screen is surrounded by a double bezel design: a matte inner surface and a slim, glossy black outer surface. This enhances the overall look.

There is also a cute addition of a headphone output, which lets you listen to the audio contained within the high-definition multimedia interface signal.

Besides that, the V2400W features BenQ’s proprietary Advanced Motion Acceleration technology for response time overdrive. It can also handle 1,080 resolution sources. With such specifications, the monitor should perform well with DivX video movies – that’s if the viewing is for a small group because the 160-degree viewing angle will limit the view.

The V2400W should be handy for photo viewing, too, thanks to BenQ’s SensEye technology. Image presets can be invoked with a dedicated shortcut button. There are also presets for movies and gaming.

The dynamic mode seems to work fine, depending on the changes in feed, even during gameplay or movie viewing. It tries to compensate and adjust the contrast and brightness to the best suitable level for viewership.

At RM1,499, the V2400W offers good display real estate and significant bang for your money. It performs well enough for media and entertainment display. And when it comes to professional use such as graphics design, the monitor might lack in better blacks and whites and contrast ratio, but for tasks, work and entertainment, it is sure no slouch.
