Hassle-free security surveillance

Whether in public housing areas, shopping complexes, garages or parking lots, the CCTV can play a critical role in assisting law enforcers to
monitor and maintain peace in a particular area. But the usage of CCTV systems is not without its problems – not least of all, tape degradation, equipment failure and insufficient quality of recordings due to the fact that the analogue-based technology in use has largely remained unchanged over the past 50 years.
One way to overcome the issues faced by analogue CCTV-based video monitoring and surveillance is to look at Internet protocol (IP)-based video surveillance systems.
Local software company Radmik Solutions believes that its open platform solution, Radmik Intelligent Universal Surveillance System (Radiuss), is the answer for a more effective and hassle-free security surveillance.
The company was incorporated in 2003, initially positioned as a supplier and system integrator of CCTV surveillance and network security systems. Then in 2006, it developed Radiuss, a core system that plays the role of
a surveillance system’s manager and controller.
seamless option. According to Radmik’s technical director Saiful Osman, Radiuss’ architecture makes IP CCTV suitable for the most stringent security requirements.
“A command centre is critical to a surveillance system. All the video feeds, alarms and management are displayed and monitored at the command centre. That’s why Radmik really emphasises on the command system. Radiuss has a complete system that comprises video monitoring, camera management, alarm notification and door access,” he said.
“With IP CCTV, there is no need for tapes or the storage of tapes – only to find out they aren’t readable later. Nor is there any need for hard cabling. Radiuss can be integrated with any existing CCTV system, building management system, door access and attendance system, asset management system, GSM (global system for mobile communications) modem, RFID (radio frequency identification), radar and more.”
Saiful pointed out that Radiuss, as a total solution for surveillance management, can be used for a large number of cameras and for different camera sites. It includes advanced camera management, user management, assets and centralised alerts management.
Radiuss, he said, works with different video servers and other external devices. “The best thing about it is that it can be used with all kinds of camera models.”
Apart from interoperability, another key feature of Radiuss is high availability.
“In fact, with the core system in place, it gives opportunities for individual nodes to fail, without jeopardising the whole system. If a server needs to be taken offline, Radiuss Suite will automatically organise itself. You don’t even have to think about it. It is seamless for you,” Saiful explained.
What’s next. Radmik intends to continue carrying out research and development focusing on helping to promote local security products.
“We also aim to help ensure security standards are met through formal certification with proper security bodies,” Saiful said, adding that efforts are already being undertaken towards this end.
