Wireless hookup in a box
Hazimin Sulaiman

SWISS wireless technology manufacturer eXair Communications is making inroads into the Malaysian market through its distributor E-Gal Ventures, focusing on its flagship eXair Wireless Connectivity solution, which is a multi-functional mobile wireless setup kit bundled together with local outfit Greenpacket’s SONBuddy.

SONBuddy is a self-organising network solution that works on an ad hoc wireless networking community.

The eXair Wireless Connectivity solution features an 802.11g USB 2.0 dongle, software-enabled router functions, extended Wi-Fi range using multi-hopping technology, virtual private network with 128-bit AES encryption, instant messaging and peer-to-peer voice calls, resource sharing, collaborative tools and a wireless local area network gaming platform.

The kit is easy to set up, needing just three steps to create a working network. This makes the solution ideal for setting up temporary offices, offsite presentations, hardware sharing and mobile workgroup collaboration.

Its impressive array of features have even secured the endorsement of the Istituto Superiore Mario Boella, Italy, a stringent technology testing and incubation outfit.

The package goes for 69 euros (RM340) in Europe. Local pricing is yet to be announced at Press time.

Come January, eXair will launch a wireless time management system utilising mobile phones or personal digital assistants. The system, which is customised to users’ needs, can be deployed for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), banks and even law practices.

The Java application system features an easy-to-use phone interface and creates time sheets and invoicing.

Pricing for the solution depends on specific needs such as a localised server or a basic time management system for SMBs with 10 or less people. EXair can even provide servers in their care or install it at the client’s premises.

The solution also can be paid through a monthly fee or a one-time fee.
