The 10-point vehicle inspection covers identification check, above carriage check, emission test, side-slip test, suspension test, brake test, speedometer test, headlight test, undercarriage test and computerised analysis.
Initial inspection determines the vehicle's compliance to the Construction and Use Rules 1959 and roadworthiness status before registration with the Road Transport Department, or before transfer of ownership for commercial vehicles.
Routine inspection are bi-annual checks to gauge the roadworthiness of commercial vehicles and ensure compliance with Road Transport Act 1987. Re-inspection is conducted after failing the initial or routine inspection.
Special inspection is to determine the roadworthiness of modified vehicles as well as verification of imported vehicles. Accident inspection is to aid police investigation of fatal accidents involving vehicles.
Voluntary inspection is a non-mandatory inspection mainly for financing approval, insurance and vehicle valuation inspection.
