PADANG BESAR: State Anti-Smuggling Unit (UPP) officers detained a Thai pickup truck driver and seized more than RM3,000 worth of cooking oil and sugar on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old man was detained during a 6.45pm operation. The food items in his truck were confiscated and sent to the state Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry enforcement division. A UPP team stopped the vehicle in front of the Muslim cemetery in Jalan Besar, here.

State UPP commander Deputy Superintendent Zakaria Abd Rahman said the foreigner did not declare most of his consignment.
