Parliament in Brief: RM8.2m aid given

THE government has given US$1million (RM3.27 million) to Myanmar and US$1.5 million to China to help them face the disasters that occurred in the two countries. Myanmar was devastated by a cyclone and China by an earthquake recently. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said Malaysia also gave other forms of humanitarian assistance. He said this in reply to a question from Dr Tan Seng Giaw (DAP- Kepong).
New penalty for vandals

PEOPLE convicted of vandalism may have to do community work. The government was studying the possibility of implementing such an order, Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainudin said yesterday. At present, those found guilty of the offence face a jail term of up to a year or a fine not exceeding RM2,000, or both, he said in reply to Datuk Halimah Sadique (BN-Tenggara).

RM428m for mosques

THE government has allocated RM428 million for the construction of mosques. A sum of RM8 million has also been alloted for building Hindu temples,Chinese temples and churches from 2005 to 2008. The amount for next year and 2010 will be decided later. Minister in the Prime Minister's department Datuk Mohd Johari Baharom said this in a written reply to Nga Kor Ming (DAP-Taiping).
