Parliament in Brief: Research on LRT extension

LAND and engineering research is being conducted by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (SPNB) in preparation for an extension the LRT-Star from Sri Petaling to USJ/Puchong and LRT-Putra from Kelana Jaya to Subang Jaya. Transport Minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat said the extension project would be wholly-financed by SPNB. Each of the two extension projects would involve 12 new stations over a 16km stretch, he said in reply to a question from Tony Pua Kiam Wee (DAP-Petaling Jaya Utara).

Olympic Furore

AN opposition member claimed Olympic badminton silver medallist Lee Chong Wei was manipulated by the Barisan Nasional into receiving his RM300,000 reward at Permatang Pauh. Lim Guan Eng (DAP-Bagan) said BN was abusing the government machinery by flying Lee from Kuala Lumpur to Penang. "Why spend money to fly him all the way to Penang when the ceremony can be held in Kuala Lumpur. I understand he was already back in Kuala Lumpur."

Call to change postal voting

THE postal voting system needs to be changed and not abolished, said the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih). Bersih's position is that the security forces should be accorded the same voting rights as other citizens, the coalition's protem committee member, R. Sivarasa, said at parliament lobby yesterday. "Bersih's proposition is for all military and police officers to list as ordinary voters and only those in duty on polling day can vote via postal ballots."
