Parliament in brief: Discount up to AirAsia

IT is up to no-frills airline AirAsia to decide whether it will implement a fixed cheap rate for senior citizens.
Deputy Transport Minister Tan Sri Joseph Kurup said the government had no problem discussing the proposal with AirAsia. Replying to a supplementary question from Datuk Ibrahim Ali (Ind-Pasir Mas), Kurup noted that AirAsia was already offering cheap fares. "Since the service is already cheap, AirAsia does not offer 50 per cent discounts to senior citizens," he said.

No extra measures

PARLIAMENT is bracing for more visitors following Parti Keadilan Rakyat de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's return to the house from today but it will not institute any additional security measures.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said it would be business as usual. He added that Anwar would be seated at the first seat in Block H, directly opposite Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Second fuel price cut?

THE government may further reduce the price of fuel, based on global crude oil prices, to ease the burden of the people, Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Jelaing Mersat said yesterday.

"Prices were, after all, reduced earlier than the announced date," he said in response to a question by Chong Chieng Jen (DAP-Bandar Kuching). Chong had asked if the government planned to reduce the prices on Monday, although there was a reduction on Aug 22.
