KOTA TINGGI: Police arrested a 25-year-old woman for allegedly abusing her 7-year-old stepson by scalding his private parts, burning his lips and caning him.

She was picked up at her house in Pengerang at 7pm on Thursday after a doctor at the Kota Tinggi Hospital who examined the boy lodged a police report.

The boy had been taken to the doctor after a teacher at his school, SRK Sungai Kapal, noticed that he seemed to be in pain.

Upon closer inspection, the teacher found burn marks on his lips and cane marks on his arms and legs.

In her report, the doctor stated that she suspected the boy was abused.
District police chief Superintendent Osman Sebot said the boy's stepmother, a restaurant helper, was detained after the report was lodged.

It is learnt the victim's father, a contractor in Teluk Ramunia, was unaware of the abuse as he lives in a hostel at his workplace.
