KUALA LUMPUR: He was a quiet man, polite and soft-spoken. He had a small circle of friends with whom he enjoyed playing squash and golf.
This was how the wife of murdered real estate agent Kuek Jee Yuen, 51, described her late husband.
"My husband had been following the same pattern for the past 20 years. He would play squash with his friends every Tuesday and Thursday.
"On Sunday afternoons, he plays golf with his friends. After his games he would go for dinner with them. He's always home before midnight," said Kuek's wife Christine Yeoh at his wake at the Xiao En centre in Cheras yesterday. Kuek's body was found floating in a river in Kuala Selangor on May 1.
"When his friends heard about his disappearance on April 24 they all tried to find him."
Initially she thought her husband had been kidnapped because of the numerous ATM withdrawals from his account. About RM6,000 was withdrawn.
Instead, on May 1 the police asked Yeoh to come and identify a body. She couldn't be sure it was her husband. But DNA results released on Tuesday confirmed his identity.
Kuek is survived by his wife and three children, aged 18, 16 and six.
A day later, on May 2, the body of IT consultant Choo Ching was found with his hands bound. He had gone missing five days after Kuek, on April 29.
Several withdrawals were made from his bank account using his ATM card. An attempt to use his credit card failed as the signatures did not match.
The 36-year-old had gone to meet a colleague in Subang Jaya but did not return home. Choo's Toyota Hilux bearing registration plate WKK 77 has yet to be found.
Yeoh said when she read about Choo's case in the newspaper she noticed the similarities. She then called Choo's wife Ong Lai Lai to offer her comfort and support.
Meanwhile, three men and two women have been arrested in connection with the two cases, and police are looking for more suspects.
