THIS is indeed a big year for Habib Jewels, which has come a long way from being just a small business in Pitt Street, Penang to the household name it is today.

Not only did it celebrate the opening of a spanking new store in Kota Kinabalu’s One Borneo Shopping Centre earlier this month, it also celebrates its 50th anniversary this September.

And what better way to say thank you to Malaysia than to celebrate in style with a nationwide Mega Sale — which is on till Sept 1 — offering up to 70 per cent discount on selected items?

“We’d like to thank Malaysians for being very supportive of Habib for 50 years and we hope for this support to continue, just as we would continue to provide the best for our customers in terms of pricing, quality and design,” said Habib Jewels marketing communications assistant manager Yasheedah Yashaiya.
So what can one expect at the sale?

For one, there are beautifully-crafted and designed jewellery that not only reflect local culture but also classic Western lines.

This, said Yasheedah, is in line with Habib's philosophy of providing world-class and quality jewellery at affordable prices.

“Created by local designers, our creations are tasteful, elegant and unique. That's what makes our jewellery stand out in the market. Our designers have also created Malaysian-inspired jewellery that reflect local flora and traditional motifs found on songket, brocade and batik,” she said.

Its selection of solitaire diamond engagement and wedding rings are also worth checking out.

“Surprisingly, some people do not know that diamonds come in different shapes, colour and carat weight. This is especially true with solitaire diamonds. People usually associate the term ‘solitaire’ with round brilliants, but solitaire actually refers to a single-set diamond.

“In Malaysia, we have collections ranging from 30 points to nine-carat solitaire diamonds and they are available in princess cuts as well as emerald, oval and marquise shapes,” said Yasheedah.

She added that the rings were specially created with weddings and engagements in mind and timed to coincide with the August wedding season.

Other highlights at Habib’s include a redesigned range of some of its more popular signature collections over the years, like its Empress range.

While previously jewellery pieces in this collection were only created in round brilliant diamond shapes, the new, updated pieces — from pendants and earrings to rings and bracelets — come in princess cuts as well as marquise and oval shapes.

Customers can also consult its sale personnel for advice on diamonds.
