TAMPIN: A child's enthusiasm to help his grandmother make kuih goyang for Hari Raya became a painful experience when the 9-year-old had his left hand and leg scalded by cooking oil.

Ahmad Faiz Mohd Nazri and his sister, Najua, 10, were watching their grandmother, Hasnah Nayan, 70, cook the kuih at their home in Kampung Senama Hilir, Rembau, and decided to take the opportunity to "help" her.

When their grandmother left to pray, Ahmad Faiz tried to stir the contents, causing the oil to spill and scald him.

The boy's mother, Rofiah Molek, said her daughter quickly alerted her and her son was rushed to the Tampin Hospital.
