Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040 unveiled: A city for all with focus on tech and well-being

KUALA LUMPUR: The newly launched Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040 (PSKL2040), aimed at providing a city for all, takes into consideration challenges and trends, including new technologies.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the plan not only focuses on driving the economy and public sector but also emphasises the well-being of the people.

"We have all these skyscrapers, but we must also provide affordable housing, clean stalls, for instance.

"This is while adapting to new technologies such as AI (Artificial Intelligence) and energy transition that were not included in past plans," he said in his speech at the launch of PSKL2040 today.

PSKL2040 is a comprehensive framework that considers the current situation and future changes such as climate change, economy, demography, lifestyle and infrastructure.

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh, in his speech earlier, said the plan was prepared in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and New Urban Agenda (NUA) to ensure that Kuala Lumpur fulfilled today's and future needs.

The plan, which replaces the PSKL2020, emphasises the economic, social, environmental and cultural aspects through six main goals, he said.

They are innovative and productive; inclusive, equitable and livable; green, healthy and vibrant; efficient mobility and environmentally friendly; as well as integrated and sustainable development.

Gazetted on Oct 19, it oversees the city's strategic development for the next 20 years, ensuring the sustainability and prosperity of the city for all of its people.

PSKL2040 will be made available to the public starting on Nov 23.

Next, the draft KL Local Plan 2040 will be publicly displayed in the first quarter of next year.
