KLSP 2040 takes into account community feedback

KUALA LUMPUR: The formulation of the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan (KLSP) 2040 has taken into account community feedback in the aspects of inclusivity and diversity to ensure that it can translate the concept of sustainable urban and community planning and development.

Kuala Lumpur City Mayor, Datuk Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh, said that in line with the new vision of City for All, several public engagement sessions have been conducted, including with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Members of Parliament (MPs), government agencies, stakeholders, and city dwellers, during the draft formulation stage.

"I would like to express my gratitude for the cooperation and commitment of all parties because the input and feedback provided is crucial in helping the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (KL City Hall) finalise the KLSP 2040," he said at the launch of the KLSP 2040 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim here today (November 9).

The event was also attended by the Prime Minister's wife cum Member of Parliament for Bandar Tun Razak, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and Communications and Digital Minister cum Lembah Pantai MP, Fahmi Fadzil.

Kamarulzaman said that the strategic direction and actions outlined in KLSP 2040 are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the New Urban Agenda (NUA) to ensure that Kuala Lumpur develops dynamically, meeting the needs of today and the future.

"This structure plan is formulated in accordance with the law. Details about the directions and strategies within KLSP 2040 will be used to drive Kuala Lumpur development in the future," he said.

In accordance with the new vision, the KLSP 2040 aims to uplift the Malaysian capital as an inclusive city focused on sustainable development, world-class management, and ensuring the quality of life in a prosperous city.

This plan is a comprehensive framework that considers current and future changes such as climate, economy, demographics, lifestyles, and Kuala Lumpur's infrastructure in the face of global challenges in the 21st century.

The KLSP 2040 will replace the KLSP 2020 as the city's future planning document to drive the strategic development of the Malaysian capital until 2040 and the document will be available for purchase at RM120 for the Malay version RM150 for the English version at Level 13, Menara DBKL 1, starting November 23.

At the same time, Kamarulzaman said the Draft of the Kuala Lumpur Local Plan (KLLP) 2040 will be open for public feedback in the first quarter of next year in accordance with Section 14 of the Federal Territory (Planning) Act 1982 (Act 267).

"I welcome all city dwellers, private entities, government agencies, and stakeholders to give their feedback, suggestions, and input on matters contained in the KLLP 2040 Draft.

"Your contributions are highly appreciated and valued to make Kuala Lumpur's planning more complete, comprehensive, and inclusive," he said.

Meanwhile, Assistant vice-chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA College of Built Environment Prof TPr Dr Jamalunlaili Abdullah said KLSP 2040 is an inclusive plan as it meets the needs of all parties in driving the development of Kuala Lumpur for the next 20 years.

"It is a good and focused plan in line with the established vision, but this is at the policy level and will be translated through KLLP 2040 in detail for each focus area," he said.

Chairman of the Kuala Lumpur chapter of Real Estate and Housing Development Association (Rehda) Ra Adrina Mustaza said the KLSP 2040 is a primary necessity for stakeholders in planning development in Kuala Lumpur.

"We understand that the plan might not satisfy everybody but it is definitely a positive step towards ensuring that all stakeholders are accounted.

"The next step in the process is the KLLP 2040 which will be more specific to the areas that will be developed in Kuala Lumpur," she said. – Bernama
