Anwar chairs first cabinet meeting post-reshuffle

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim chaired the first cabinet meeting today after the announcement of the reshuffle yesterday.

The meeting, held at the Perdana Putra complex here, began at 9.30am and was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and all the newly appointed ministers.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof is currently away performing the umrah.

It is understood that during the meeting, the Prime Minister delivered directives and briefed on the regulations and the direction of his leadership in the unity government.

Based on photographs shared by the Prime Minister's Office, all ministers were seen warmly interacting among themselves, particularly with the newly-appointed ministers.

Today also marked the start of official duties for all new ministers and deputy ministers, holding 'clock in' sessions, alongside handover ceremonies.

Yesterday, Anwar announced the first cabinet reshuffle after a year of leading the unity government.

Among the changes announced were the introduction of new faces as ministers and deputy ministers, including former Employees Provident Fund (EPF) chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, as the Finance Minister II.

The reshuffle also saw the return of former ministers, such as Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani to the Plantation and Commodities Ministry, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad reassuming leadership of the Health Ministry, and Gobind Singh Deo as the Digital Minister.

Several ministries underwent restructuring, including the splitting of the Communications and Digital Ministry into the Communications Ministry and the Digital Ministry.

The Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Ministry was divided into the Energy Transition and Public Utilities Ministry and the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry.
