Razarudin: Ex-IGP Hanif a legend in the police force

KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has described Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar as a legend in the police force.

Hanif, the country's longest-serving IGP from 1974 to 1994, died at 2.15am today.

"The late Tan Sri Hanif was the country's longest-serving IGP for 20 years and he became IGP when he was 35.

"He was firm, wise and efficient in making decisions.

"To me, he was a legend in the police force and throughout his service, he helped ensure the security of the nation, as well as the welfare of officers and members of the force," he said at Masjid Negara.

Razarudin added that both he and his father had served under Hanif's tenure as IGP.

"As for myself, about 10 years, starting from being an inspector to the rank of assistant superintendent of police."

Hanif's remains arrived at Masjid Negara at 11.05am for bathing and shrouding.

The funeral prayer is scheduled after Zohor.

He will be buried at Makam Pahlawan.

Those present to pay their last respects include former IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan, Tan Sri Ismail Omar, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and former deputy IGP Tan Sri Mazlan Mansor.

Also present were deputy IGP Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay and Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf
